Terms of Usage

1. Access and Eligibility

By accessing the service, the user confirms that they are a member of an academic institution. The service coordinator reserves the right to grant or deny access to the service or to terminate running processes at any time.

2. Usage Restrictions

The service and its results may be used for non-profit research purposes only. The service is provided completely free of charge; users are expected not to abuse the service. If you intend to utilize the service or its results for commercial purposes, please contact the service coordinator prior to any usage.

3. Uploaded Data

The user must be able to present proof that they have the rights to use all data that they upload. The user entitles the service to store the uploaded data, to process them, to store all intermediate and final results of the process, and to remove data that have been stored during processing.

Data uploaded by users is stored on a secure academic server until the session is closed by the user (tab or browser closed or page refreshed), or up to 7 days after speech processing has ended in case the user explicitly requested email notification. Data is automatically removed after download or after the retention period expires.

Uploaded data will not be forwarded to third parties, except for the WebMAUS phoneme-level alignment service, which is delegated to the Bavarian Archive for Speech Signals at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet Munich (https://clarin.phonetik.uni-muenchen.de/BASWebServices/interface). The Terms of Use of WebMAUS differ from the Terms of Use of PLSPP Web Services. Please consult the WebMAUS terms here. The user indemnifies and will not hold PLSPP Web Services or Université Grenoble Alpes responsible for any claim arising from use of the WebMAUS service.

All other speech processing modules (including Whisper ASR) are run locally on our server.

4. Results

The user agrees to avoid any non-ethical usage of the service or of results of the service. The copyright of the results belongs to the user of the service. The service retains the right to store the results only for the technical purpose of providing the service.

Citation: Users who utilize this tool in their research are requested to cite it appropriately (citation reference will be added soon).

5. Monitoring

For monitoring and statistical purposes, usage data is logged. No directly identifying information is collected. Statistics include the number of sessions created, which modules are run, and whether processing fails or not with what type of error. This information is used solely to improve the service and derive usage statistics. The user agrees to these monitoring policies.

6. Open Source

The application is fully open-source. All code and documentation are available for review and contribution.

7. Indemnification

The user will indemnify and will not hold PLSPP Web Services, Université Grenoble Alpes, or the service coordinator responsible for any claim arising out of the use of the service.

8. Disclaimer

Important: This tool is a prototype with absolutely no guarantee. The use of the service is at the user's own risk. The service is provided on an "as is" basis. PLSPP Web Services does not provide a warranty of any kind for the service.

9. Limitation of Liability

PLSPP Web Services, Université Grenoble Alpes, and the service coordinator will not be liable for any damages resulting from the use of the service or the use of results of the service. While we aim to provide the service on a continuous basis, we will not be liable for any damages that are caused by non-availability of the service for any reason.
